Done - Altered Notebook No.1
This Altered Notebook is done. I have already begun another, as shown a few posts ago. This is proving to be a very pleasant way to work. I am really enjoying the fact that the pages can be taken out and worked on individually. I love being able to include fabric, cardboard. It makes incorporating parts and pages of other old books so easy. Follow this link to see how this notebook began back in June ALTERED NOTEBOOK.
As with most of us, in the past I have purchased expensive elements that at the time I thought were too wonderful and I couldn't live without, only to get them home and to find they wouldn't work out as well as I had thought. So, I have "stuff" I need to get rid of or use up. I am now only using up supplies I have on hand. The binder is an old school binder (cardboard, not vinyl cover) and most of the pages are made of old cereal and snack box board I took from the recycling bin. In this day that we are so environmental aware, it feels good to use materials that would otherwise be thrown out.

i have a art teacher that teaches high school come into the shop (antique/junk store) all the time looking for "ideas"
she will love this as a suggestion for her class
and that everything was totally found items destined for the trash even BETTER!

Another lovely art book. Have you ever thought about teaching an online class Ingrid? This book, the construction of it would be an incredible class that could easily be done online.

ReplyDeleteI really do love the look of your journal. Is it the type that holds regular notebook paper. I have a small journal that I was going to use, but I love the idea of being able to take the pages out to work on them.

ReplyDeleteThis note book is beautiful - much more texture and interest and "art" than anything you could ever find in a store! It is such a good idea too, to use a binder - that way the pages can come in and out easily for scanning, etc ! Brilliant and beautiful !

Thank you for putting the emphasis on cheap supplies and using what you have. I, too, when I first started, thought I had to have the best of the best to even start. I wish someone had told me then what I now know...you don't need a lot to make pleasing art, just your creativity and what you have on hand.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I echo Christy's sentiment...this would make a wonderful online class. It might help folks that want to keep an art journal, but are intimidated by the form or the supplies. It's harder to be intimidated by a leftover box of Lucky Charms than 140lb Fabriano Artistico Watercolor paper. *grin*
