I have put together 3 of these little books I have been working on. They go together quickly and easily (as I had hoped) I did however take them a step further and edged all the pages (which took a surprising amount of time) and did some beading on the front. The beading was done on the ends of the waxed linen cording that holds the pages in place. This is not required, but I just love adding
beads to any project I can. I was planning on using all the same paper for the pages but decided to use all different left over papers, which makes for a very interesting over all look. I'm hoping to offer this as a workshop project and so far it all came together better than I had planned. Often times I run into snags and my ideas don't quite work out as I had hoped. Admittedly, I am happy with how these turned out. The finished size of each book is 6 1/2" tall (including antennas) and 7" wide completely opened.

These are so cute (albeit surreal and kind of creepy). I love the added touch of the beads. Very, very nice!

I read your post when these were in progress and couldn't wait to see them finished! These butterfly books are absolutely fantastic, Ingrid!
Having different colored pages gives them such great personalities, and the addition of the beads was an inspired thought! Pure magic! Bravo!
They are just sooooo cool! Love them!
these are absolutely DIVINE!!!
and you inspired me for a use of my old clothespins... they might end up as butterfly bodies... the slot they have could be perfect for holding wings:)) thanks for that inpiration!

I've been hearing from everyone about these gorgeous butterfly books, but didn't have time to visit your blog until now. I'm off to read more about them and all the work and planning you put into them.
I'm delighted that you shared your thought process with us. The end product is well worth the time you spent developing these beauties. They are simply superb. I would say you have another hit on your hands.
As always...just gorgeous!!!
