"Recycle" Artist Trading Cards

I belong to a small local ATC group that meets once a month. Next month the theme is "Recycle" and this is what I came up with. In the past I have have seen some rather interesting things on-line done by fusing plastic grocery sacks together. I had a lot of trouble getting the layers to stick together. They either just bubbled up without fusing or completely melted. I am sure my problem has to do with finding the correct temperature. Even though my ATCs are done, I am still interested in learning how to do this technique correctly, it really has some potential. I think I'll continue to experiment with it later on today.

Thanks Stregata and Marbella!

Jan, I appreciate your sending that YouTube my way. I used parchment paper, maybe that's why I had difficulty. I'm off to try it again as per that great tutorial you sent. Thanks!

Love the idea of the recycled bags for ATCs. Here are a few things I have learned:

1. Make sure all your bags are the same weight. Different weights react (and fuse) differently.
2. If you get bubbles, your iron is set too high. This is a look some people like. I don't.
3. Keep moving the iron. Better to slowly move the iron than allow it to sit in one spot. Never let the steam holes sit for too long in one spot.

I hope these help. I am curious to see the youtube video that Jan pointed to.

My big concern has been with adding color. So far, gesso doesn't work and neither does paint. I've yet to try staz-on, alcohol inks, or color mists. I think I should be using an ink rather than a paint. Hope you share your experiments. Love those ATCs.
