Journalfest Notebook Video

This is my first ever video.  I am rather pleased with how it came out and wanted to share it.  This is basically just a practice and learning (for me) flip through video of an event journal I made a few years ago for the last Journalfest.  It was made in the binder format.  At the time I made this journal I didn't have any of the chip board binders that I like so well, so I ended up deconstructing a vinyl binder and rebuilding it. This video doesn't show that process, but instead the end result.   I plan to make a video demonstrating the process, so if you're interested, make sure to stop by again soon!

"Woodlands" journal

The last few journal pages from my "Woodlands" journal for now. Still haven't found the couple of items I want to add to this journal before calling it finished, so I have decided to set it aside for awhile.

The small inserted page is from an old french prayer book. I'm afraid I have forgotten who gave this to me at JournalFest, but I do recall her saying that it was very difficult for her to take pages out of the book. As both sides of the page have a beautiful illustration on it, I just couldn't bear to glue it down in my journal. I thought to put it between 2 sheets of plastic was a good solution and figured I'd give it a soft touch of bling while I was at it.

JournalFest 2011 - Journal continued

Just a few more pages of my JournalFest 2011 journal, which is just about finished. I seem to have misplaced a few key elements to finalize this journal. I won't consider this journal complete until I find them.

This is an "Event Journal" and includes all the ephemera and additional goodies I collected and was given while at JournalFest.

"Woodlands" Journal

Today I spent some time working on my "Woodlands" Journal. This is an event journal specifically for JournalFest 2011.

At these retreats many people give out "Trades" and of course you always acquire all kinds of of ephemera you like to keep as a token of remembrance ... at least I do. This journal will contain as much of it as I can possibly squeeze into it.

It's a lot of fun incorporating other peoples business cards and trades into my own journal pages.I still have work to do in this journal, but I wanted to share a few pages I am still working on. More of this journal can be seen here.

"JournalFest 2011" Woodlands Journal

This year JournalFest will be October 26th - the 30th 2011. This will be my 3rd year teaching there and I am looking forward to it more than ever. I will be offering the workshops "Into the Crypt" and "The Ambrosia Journals".

New this year, there will be an informal gallery set up for themed journals that are either for sale or for show. My contribution to share will be an event journal. I did one for JournalFest 2009 (as seen here) to house all the goodies I gathered while there and it is one of my favorite journals so far.

I have a start on this one and so far it includes my comfirmation package, other paperwork, paper and button treats pertaining to this years theme of "Woodlands".

With deer being so abundant there, it's only fitting that their presence be in the promotion material and the journals.

My journal is still in the very beginning stages, but I wanted to share it so far. It is actually made of an old repurposed computer instructional manual. These metal ring binders lend themselves very well to this type of journal. I have cut down the width and the existing tabbed folders. The binder itself, I have stripped off the vinyl covering, beefed up the warped front cover (by sewing a piece of 1/4" plywood to the existing cover with vintage ribbon) and have collaged it with various papers.

This is a photo of the back of the journal as it is right now. I plan to stencil a tree with bare branches over the dotted paper. The journal is 8" X 10" and 2.5" thick.

JournalFest 2011

I have to admit I was pretty excited to have been invited back for JournalFest 2011 and I just learned that my 2 proposals "Into the Crypt" and "The Ambrosia Journals" have been accepted! This year the dates are October 26th thru the 30th and of course it will be held at the beautiful Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Washington. Plans are that the whole line up for JournalFest will go live at TeeshaMoore.com on March 4th and registration will begin. Hope to see you there!

Calendar Journaling

A couple of days ago I was at my Mother's house and she ask if Kirry and I had Journaled about our trip to Washington and I told her we really didn't have much opportunity as we were busy sight seeing and then participating at JournalFest. She pulls out her calendar and says "Well, I did!" Gotta love a Mom that Journals on her calendar! Photo enlarges to see detail. (Note that on the 30th, Kirry is in the foreground making her usual ridiculous faces.)

Ethiopian Appalachian Journals

While at JournalFest, Kirry (my 16 year old daughter) and I took the class "Ethiopian Appalachian Journals" by Daniel Essig. And what a wonderful class it was! Admittedly, I am just mildly annoyed that Kirry's book came out far better than mine. After all, she has never so much as glued 2 pieces of paper together and here she is a book binding wizard! I have begun journaling in my book (the walnut one), which is proving to be quite a challenge due to it's tiny size of 2 1/2" X 3 1/2" and 1 1/2" thick. Kirry's book requires no further embellishment or journaling, it is a work of Art as is.

Just back from a wonderful trip out to Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Washington for JournalFest. Kirry and I went out several days earlier to visit Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. What a wonderful trip it was. Now I am busy unpacking from JournalFest and getting ready for my trip out to The O'More College of Design in Tennessee next week for "Through the Rabbit Hole" . The College is opening this class up to the public and there are still a few spots open if you are interested. Contact Susan for details. I'll post more photos of JournalFest when I have a chance!

"De Corporis Humani Fabrica" JournalFest 2010

I have just made this last minute addition to my "De Corporis Humani Fabrica" Journal that I will be teaching at JournalFest next week. I have acquired these wonderful little bottles to store all sorts of specimens in ... I'm thinking tiny stones or shells from the beach at Fort Worden where I'll be staying for several days. I am so terribly excited to be going back AND having the honor of teaching at JournalFest again. It really doesn't get much better than that.

I'll also be teaching "Through the Rabbit Hole" at JournalFest on Saturday. Two of my favorite books!

Upcoming Workshops

It's been such a busy time. Lots of preparations for upcoming Workshops are in progress. After these three Workshops I'll have a few months that I can focus on new books and classes. I have several in mind that I am looking forward to preparing . These are photos of a few journal pages that I started a few months ago and never finished. JournalFest 2010 - Registration has begun!

JournalFest registration has officially begun! It's a stellar line up again. As I understand, this year registration will be done a little differently. There will be a limit as to how many can attend each class, when the class is full, registration for that class will be closed. If you plan on attending this year make sure to register early to get the classes you want.

Puget Sound

I was transferring some photos off my camera when I realized I didn't share any of these photos. This is the view out of my hotel room while I was at JournalFest in Port Townsend, Washington a few weeks ago. Loved the somewhat eerie fog in the mornings.

"JournalFest" Journal continued

I acquired so much collage material at JournalFest from so many people that I will never be able to incorporate it into just this one journal. Much of it is two sided and I had a problem gluing it to a page and not being able to see what was on the back. Unfortunately, the photos glare quite a bit, but it gives an idea of how it looks. I have encased the imagery in clear vinyl sheet protectors and then put it through my sewing machine to keep everything in place. I then trimmed them to fit nicely within the binder journal I altered.

At JournalFest spraying equipment and stencils were available for use. I had far too much fun using it all throughout my journal.

I have discovered that by trimming off one column of slots in a trading card sheet, it fits perfectly into this (and several others) journal. Adds such a nice change of pace from the standard page.

"JournalFest" Journal

I made a journal specifically for JournalFest. Before I had a source for the chipboard binders I made this journal by striping a vinyl binder and recovering it. Below is a portion of the collage material that came with my confirmation packet. Each instructor was ask to send some material that could be included.

I rarely use any copyrighted material in my journals, however much of what is included in this journal came in my confirmation packet or was given to me at JournalFest. The purpose of this material is for journaling and I have no intention of selling it and don't claim it as my own, I am merely incorporating it into my journal. I have almost filled up this journal and still have so many wonderful images left over, not to mention photograghs. I'm thinking I might have to make a "Part 2" Journal just to include everything!

Behind that white split rail fence is the entrance to Fort Worden. This tiny little house across the street is for sale ... hmm an option .... sure would be convenient for future trips to The Fort and I did say I wanted a smaller house. Some reason I am having difficulty talking my husband into it. And admittedly, the sign below makes me a little nervous.
