New Mandala Pages

So much has happened in the past year (actually, well over a year) since I last updated this blog!  We have moved to Mid-Michigan to our dream house with a barn that we are revamping into a studio (almost complete!).  I plan to post more on that soon.

In the mean time, I have learned of a new technique called "Acrylic Pours" that I have been experimenting with.  My results have been less than stellar, but I have enjoyed experimenting with the process.

The results reminded me of celestial bodies and I decided to make them on Round 8.5" boxboard to incorporate into my Mandala Journal.

The rest of the Mandala Journal can be viewed on my website here.

"Art and Soul" Virginia Beach 2015

"Art and Soul" in Virginia Beach, Virginia will be September 28th thru October 4th, 2015.  I'll be teaching 3 of my favorite workshops. Classes are filling up fast!  Hope you'll join us!

"Over the Edge"  the new fun size version!  Wednesday, September 30th, 2015.  More photos of "Over the Edge" can be seen here.

"The Mandala Journal"  Tuesday, September 29th, 2015.  Lately I have been loving this format for journaling with loose pages that fit nicely inside a box! More photos of the Mandala Journal can be seen here.

"The Journal Obscura" Monday, September 28th, 2015. Again, loose pages that are neatly contained within a box.  This journal is inspired by the Camera Obscura. More photos of the "Journal Obscura" can be seen here.

Mandala Journal

I spent a little time adding a few new pages to my Mandala Journal.  I realize that the more I work in this journal the less traditional my Mandalas become.

But then again, it's my journal and I can make up the rules as I go!  It is one of the many joys of journaling ... you can make and break any rule that you want!  You can view more pages from my Mandala journal on my website here.

Getting ready for Pennsylvania!

While packing up supplies for my upcoming trip to PA this coming weekend, I was distracted and decided to play rather than pack.  I ended up with these 2 new spreads in my "Urban Ranson" journals.  I had far too much fun, but now back to gathering supplies and packing...

I also started to pack up supplies for  "The Mandala Journal". It took everything I had in me to keep packing rather than take time to play in this journal also!

As almost everyone is surprised at the size of these Mandalas when they see them in real life, I thought I would mention that these are 8" in diameter ... not the size of drink coasters that everyone seems to think.

Oh my goodness ... it's a terrible thing to love what you do as much as I do. It's so hard to do what I am supposed to be doing rather than spend all my time journaling.

"Over the Edge" The Fun size version  is also being offered in Pennsylvania this weekend ...

... at "Charmed I'm Sure Studio".  You can purchase a slot in any of these workshops here. This is a link to the Workshop descriptions if you'd like more information.  We'd love for you to join us .... We'll assume that I'll continue with the preparations and get ready in time!

Workshops at "Charmed I'm Sure" in P.A.

I'll be in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania at the "Charmed I'm Sure" Studio of Jean Van Brederode on April, 17, 18 and 19, 2015!

Here are a few photos of the Mandala Journal being offered on Friday the 17th.   Thought I'd mention(as so many people have told me that from the photos they thought the journal pages were coaster size), I'd like to let you know that the pages are 8" in diameter. However, I do also like the idea of making a smaller one ... workshop for the future perhaps.

We still have room in Saturday and Sunday's workshop ... "Over the Edge" and "Urban Ransom". Do consider joining us for one or all classes!  We'd love to see you there!

Mandala Journal

I had the luxury of having a bit of extra time and I spent it working in my Mandala Journal.  I love working in this journal because of the format. Sometimes it can be a challenge, but it is a very pleasant shape and size (8") to work with.

This is one of the workshops I will be teaching at Art and Soul in Portland next week. There are only a few extra available seats in the class, so grab one while you can!

You can see more photos of this journal on my website here.

Art and Soul Portland!

What a crazy busy and exciting time!  All plans are in full gear for Art and Soul in Portland, March 2-8, 2015!  Classes have been added and I will be teaching 4 workshops that I am terribly excited about!

One of the workshops will be "The Wall", a graffiti inspired accordion book.  Speaking of which ... did you see the Jan/Feb 2015 issue of "Cloth, Paper, Scissors" Magazine? There is an article I wrote about graffiti journals with "The Wall" being shown as an example.

The "Mandala Journal" is being offered on Thursday.

By popular demand, "Through the Rabbit Hole" will be on Tuesday.

And the brand new "Over the Edge" (the fun size version) will be on Monday!

My teaching schedule is being dramatically cut back starting this year, so take advantage of the opportunity to take these workshops while you can.

My website is currently under construction and oodles of new photos of these journals are being uploaded as I write this! Be sure to check them out!

Art Unraveled 2014

Art Unraveled in Phoenix, Arizona is coming up very soon!  It runs from July 28th till August 5th, 2014.

Above are 2 photos from "The Mandala Journal".  This is a brand new workshop being taught for the first time ... and the only time this year, for that matter. It's a new take on Mandalas and adapted for journaling in the round.  This is a new format for journaling and lots of fun to work with.

Below is a classic workshop "De Corporis Humani Fabrica".  I haven't taught this in a few years due to supply problems for some of the materials I needed. This class has been revamped and now I am happy to offer it again.  It includes oodles of delightfully creepy vintage anatomical drawings in the form of collage sheets.

And the "Vintage File Folder Journals".  An all time favorite! (only a very few seats left!)  Don't miss out on this exciting journal construction, so spontaneous and unpredictable!  We'll start by making a 12' foot of paper by gluing and sewing vintage papers together and then we'll construct a fabulous journal.

Lots of examples and samples provide for all classes. Please join us!  A good time will be had by all and you'll walk away with a beautiful journal ready for all your journaling needs.

A New Journal

I just wanted to offer a sneak peek of a new journal that I am working on.  Even though it really doesn't look like it at this point, it will be a Mandala Journal of sorts.  More to follow .....
