Workshops for the remainder of 2016

With selling and buying a house, plus a move underway, life has been hectic to say the least! I have had to cut way back on my schedule for teaching this year, but I am determined to remain active.  After settling down from this crazy time, I will be developing new workshops, picking up on my teaching schedule and will be preparing my new studio for classes and for having other instructors come in as well. Why I appear to have vanished ....

It has been a ridiculous amount of time since I have last blogged and/or updated info on Facebook.  I have not fallen off the face of the planet and have not been idle!  There are so, SO many plans in the works!  I am hesitant to start sharing plans until they are concrete, because often times things change along that path ... which they have ... dramatically, in fact!... but, all for the better!

In a nut shell-

We are in the process of getting our house ready to go on the market and are in search of our perfect "Forever" home.  This has been our total focus and is turning out to be a major undertaking!  Just to say .... the new house is actually secondary .... the accompanying studio space is REALLY what it's all about. So, as we embark along this venture, please check back on occasion ... perhaps friend me on Facebook for updates.

"Through the Rabbit Hole" Workshop in Phoenix!

I am so happy to offer "Through the Rabbit Hole" at Art Unraveled in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday August 4, 2014!  There are a few seats still available! This is the only time this workshop is being offered this year.

I  am also teaching  "Urban Ransom" and "Over the Edge (the new fun side version)", but as of now, they are filled classes.

Building a New Journal

I spent the morning deconstructing an old hard bound discarded book, painting large pieces of paper for pages and then rebuilding the old book into a journal to better suit my needs.

This is a new workshop that has been designed exclusively for the "Rooted Women" group at THRIVE in Waterford, Michigan. We'll be taking an old hard bound book and we'll rebuild it, start to finish, into a very personal journal over the six week course of the program.

Getting ready for Pennsylvania!

While packing up supplies for my upcoming trip to PA this coming weekend, I was distracted and decided to play rather than pack.  I ended up with these 2 new spreads in my "Urban Ranson" journals.  I had far too much fun, but now back to gathering supplies and packing...

I also started to pack up supplies for  "The Mandala Journal". It took everything I had in me to keep packing rather than take time to play in this journal also!

As almost everyone is surprised at the size of these Mandalas when they see them in real life, I thought I would mention that these are 8" in diameter ... not the size of drink coasters that everyone seems to think.

Oh my goodness ... it's a terrible thing to love what you do as much as I do. It's so hard to do what I am supposed to be doing rather than spend all my time journaling.

Below is a class description and here are several additional photos of this technique packed journal.

After numerous requests, the classic “Over the Edge” 

journal of page shapes and edges is making a come 

back, only this time it’s “Fun Size”!  This luscious little 

journal (4 1/2" X 6 1/4") is a power packed version of 

the original.  We’ll work on getting those pages to "pop" 

(no one likes dull flat pages) and make the edges of 

those pages sizzle (gilding on steroids). This class will 

help us break away from the traditional rectangular 

shaped page. We’ll explore ways of developing and 

making other shapes for pages giving our books more 

dimension and interest. The importance of the often 

neglected edges of pages will be emphasized. Ingrid’s 

original book "An Instructional Guide for Going Over the 

Edge" will also be available for viewing many examples 

which displays a plethora of possibilities.  You need 

only bring a few sheets of paper and a few simple 

supplies that you probably already have on hand and 

the rest will be supplied!

ATC Play Day at THRIVE

We all had a great day at THRIVE yesterday making Artist Trading Cards. An incredible mess was made and oodles of fabulous ATCs were created!  Some of which are pictured below.

We had a group of about 20 very creative individuals that all had a great time.

Mandala Journal

I had the luxury of having a bit of extra time and I spent it working in my Mandala Journal.  I love working in this journal because of the format. Sometimes it can be a challenge, but it is a very pleasant shape and size (8") to work with. 

This is one of the workshops I will be teaching at Art and Soul in Portland next week. There are only a few extra available seats in the class, so grab one while you can!

Free Play Day at THRIVE! March 28th, 2015

Seriously ... Who doesn't LOVE Artist Trading Cards?

Those little 2 1/2" X 3 1/2" mini works of art for trading or keeping (never sold).

We'll be having a FREE play day at THRIVE in Waterford, Michigan making ATCs! Stay for an hour ... stay for the day. I'll be there from 10 am to 5 pm, providing light instruction and all the materials you'll need.  But, feel free to bring your own magazines to cut up or any other materials you'd like to include or share.

I'll bring lots of samples of ATCs to show ... I'll even bring some journals for you to look through.

Itching to make a new Junk Journal

I'm still adding photos to my newly revamped website.  I'm beginning to think it will never be finished.  I'm just about to the point of saying "It's good enough ... I'm done".  However, there are still several things I feel I have to take care of before I can call it done.

I added a few more photos of this Junk Journal I made in Portland, Oregon a few years back while teaching at "Art and Soul".  It was a great time .... and I am going back in a few short weeks again!  I'll be teaching some of my favorite workshops.
