Awhile back Interweave ask me to write an article for "Cloth, Paper, Scissors" magazine on accordion Graffiti Journals ... specifically "The Wall".  I was happy to do so and have included a few photos here. This is the current Jan./Feb. 2015 issue.

The timing is quite good as well.  Are you aware you can take a workshop in Portland, Oregon March 4th, 2015, through Art and Soul and make your very own version or one as pictured below?  Registrations are being taken now.

I am honored to have been selected to have a couple of my pieces published in the new book "The Beauty of Zentangle" written by Suzanne McNeill  and Cindy Shepard. This is a beautiful book and a must have if you have any interest in Zentangles or doodling in general ... and if you don't have an interest, this book will most definitely inspire you to delve into this method of self expression for sure!

What a pleasant surprise!  I had no idea that this journal spread of mine was going to be published in the Spring 2013 issue of Art Journaling ... let alone at all.  I just love these kind of surprises.  By the way, this is an awesome issue of Art Journaling ... as they all are.

"Shaped Journals" article in "Cloth, Paper, Scissors"

Awhile back "Cloth, Paper, Scissors" Magazine ask me to write an article on making shaped journals. I just received my complimentary issues and couldn't be happier. They have done an outstanding job photographing my samples and laying it out. This is the March/April 2013 issue, soon to be available on store shelves any day now.

And for the many of you that email me asking for class kits, I have decided to do a trail run of making a few of these journals and offering them for sale.  The plan is to have them available next week on my website and on ETSY.

"Fundamentally Female"

Ages ago I was invited to submit a journal spread for possible inclusion in a book to be written by Renee Rongen.  Quite honestly, I never heard back after sending it off and forgot about it. So it was quite a surprise when a couple of copies of this book came in the mail today. 

I have spent the whole afternoon savoring this beautiful book. I highly recommend it! The inside cover reads -

"Zentangle Untangled"

Sure, I have done a lot of doodling in my journals.  My favorite technique lately has been incorporating what I like to call "Zen Dots'  into my journals, as shown on this journal spread I did a few days ago.  I have tried many variations of Zentangling and done quite a few into my journals.  Zentangling is so very meditative.

Which now brings me to the true purpose of this post.  Awhile back Kass Hall asked me if I’d be interested in  reviewing her upcoming book “Zentangle Untangled” and join in on the blog hop. I agreed, but was not prepared for the absolutely breathtaking book that later came my way.  I was floored by what I have seen in this book. I have seen a several books on Zentangling, but Kass has a fresh approach and has certainly taken doodling and Zentangles to a whole new level.

This book not only includes very clear and easy to understand directions for getting started, but also how to incorporate Zentangling into other work.  In this book Kass covers everything from the history of Zentangling, some basic color theory, materials,  how to include color into Zentangles and Art Journaling, to name a few. There are just so many options to explore. The photos are crisp and colorful and the directions clearly written and easy to understand. 

And now I'd like to share some of my work including doodling and Zentangling. Above is a photo of my first introduction to Zentangling.  These are Artist Trading Cards I made on the official Zentangle tiles. This is when I realized I had to do more.  In fact if you scroll down you'll see several other examples of how I have been incorporating Zentangles into my journals since.

A New Class Handout

I just picked up my order of new class handouts from the printer. I am just as happy as can be with them.  My printer always does an amazing job! And because it took me 4 solid days to design this little 12 page brochure, I figured it was Blog-Worthy.

While waiting in line ....

While at JoAnn's the other day, waiting in a very long line, I picked up the magazine Somerset Studio's Gallery and just started leafing through it.  I came to the last page and low and behold  a photo of a couple of my journal pages in the advertisement for the newest Art Journaling magazine!  What a pleasant surprise that was. I love how bold the pages look on the black background. Rather made up for my 20 minute wait in line.

Art Journaling Magazine!

I just came home yesterday from a fabulous teaching trip to Las Vegas and was greeted by this magazine in my mail box.  What a delightful thing to come home to!  I really feel honored to have been interviewed by Rice Freeman-Zachery for this.  This 11 page article is so beautifully written and the photography is absolutely outstanding. Actually, I can't say enough about the entire magazine ... it's a great publication.

"Adventures in Mixed Media"

It's finally out! Jane Davies newest book "Adventures in Mixed Media" was well worth the wait. I just got it and am loving each and every page!

I feel very honored to have two of my mixed media dolls "Fly" and "Time" appear in this book.

I hope to be offering Workshops with Mixed Media figures similar to these in the near future. Too many ideas, too little time to get it all together!

"For the Love of Letters"

I want to share an article that was in "The Graphic", a Northwestern Michigan publication (Photo enlarges), even though I am still reeling from Key Largo. I still have photos to share, but that will have to wait. Tomorrow I head up to "The Jordan River Arts Council" to see the show "For the Love of Letters" (which has one of my pieces in it) and to teach a two day workshop "Over the Edge" (still a few spots available). Can't wait!

Artisan of the Year - Finalist

This is the latest issue (January/February 2011) of Cloth, Paper, Scissors. I am honored to have been selected as one of the Artisan of the Year Finalists. The winner in the Art Journal/Book Making category was Thomas Ashman, well deserved as his work is outstanding. The other 3 finalists in this category were Gina Moore, David Hayes and Kathryn Antyr, who all do amazing work and I would like to extend my congratulations to them all!

Newspaper publication - "OCD" Workshop

Even though it wasn't truly a workshop on Altered Books, it's still a nice little write up in the Franklin, Tennessee Newspaper. The photo is great and it's always fun to see your work in print! This was from the workshop "Through the Rabbit Hole", I taught at "OCD" (.... gotta love a College with a sense of humor!), the O'More College of Design, in Franklin, Tennessee.
